LASD Deps Evacuate Maywood residents as LACoFD & Vernon FD fights fire

 

Los Angeles :The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have deployed deputies from several Sheriff’s stations to assist residents in safely evacuating their homes in the City of Maywood.

Approximately 200 residents have been evacuated from their homes in the nearby area of 3570 Fruitland Avenue, Maywood.  The majority of the evacuations were mandatory as other residents voluntarily evacuated to safety.

The fire originated at approximately 2:30 a.m.  East Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputies responded to a commercial structure fire involving a truck repair shop and sheet metal company.

Several residential blocks have been affected by a power outage do to burned power lines.

Los Angeles County Fire Department and Vernon Fire Department personnel are actively engaged in extinguishing the fire, as Los Angeles County Sherriff’s personnel continues to assist residents in safely navigating through the neighboring roads.

Due to road closures and fire hazard areas, please avoid the following areas:

Downey Avenue / Fruitland Avenue

Fruitland Avenue / Loma Vista Avenue

Maywood Avenue / East 53rd Street

Loma vista Avenue / East 53rd Street

Everett Avenue / Fruitland Avenue

For your safety, stay clear of all downed lines and anything they are contacting, including nearby fences, trees, cable or phone lines, and the ground.

Affected residents were asked to seek shelter at the “Maywood YMCA,” 4801 58th Street, Maywood.  The Red Cross is at the “YMCA” assisting residents affected by the fire.
