Walnut, Calif. – Mt. San Antonio College is developing a transition program to help displaced ITT Technical Institute students finish their degrees and certificates.
Because ITT Tech was accredited in a different manner than California Community Colleges, transferring credits from ITT Tech to Mt. San Antonio College will be challenging. However, administrators believe ITT Tech students can have a second chance by earning credit for equivalent Mt. SAC courses through a process known as credit-by-exam.
“This is the right thing to do,” said Dr. William T. Scroggins, president and CEO of Mt. SAC. “When it comes down to it, Mt. SAC’s mission is to educate students and prepare them for rewarding careers. We share that mission with ITT Tech. They couldn’t complete their commitment to these students, but we can help pick up the ball and make sure they can finish their education and earn a good living.”
Mt. San Antonio College, a community college in Walnut, Calif., is working with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office, U.S. Department of Education, the state Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education as well as ITT Tech administrators to assist the displaced students.

“We’re going through ITT Tech’s catalog and finding that we offer many of the same programs, like Industrial Design Engineering and Accounting,” Sciore said. “With our range of programs and affordable tuition, I think we’d be a great option for these students.”
ITT Tech’s closure affects about 4,500 students in the state, with about 300 students attending the local San Dimas campus. These students can learn more about their options through the Federal Student Aid website at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/about/announcements/itt.
