The Federal Bureau of Investigation published its Annual Uniform Crime Report today, Sept. 26, 2016, for Part I crime reported January through December 2015.   Part I crimes include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, auto theft and arson.

“I am extremely pleased that the City of Irvine continues to maintain its place among the safest cities in America,” said Mayor Steven S. Choi. “The outstanding service provided each day by the men and women of the Irvine Police Department in many ways defines our City.   Irvine aspires to be a model for success – I believe this is made possible by providing a safe environment for our residents, business community and many visitors.”

“I am pleased that the City of Irvine has recorded the lowest rate of violent crime per capita for any city in the nation with a population of 250,000 or more,” said Irvine Police Chief Mike Hamel. “This achievement is attributed to the dedication of the men and women of the Irvine Police Department and our City leaders who support public safety efforts, ensuring our personnel have the necessary resources to provide the highest level of service.  We are equally as fortunate for our community and many stakeholders who work in partnership with our Department throughout the year.”
