LAX Brings Together Hundreds of Job Seekers and Employers at Job and Resource Fair in Inglewood

LAX Spring Employment & Resource Fair in the City of Inglewood. LAX

Los Angeles– Close to 1,000 job seekers from communities surrounding Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) attended today’s LAX Spring Employment & Resource Fair in the City of Inglewood.  The job and resource fair was organized by LAX’s Community Relations Division and Business & Job Resource Center (BJRC) to introduce job opportunities ahead of what is projected to be a very busy summer travel season at LAX.

“At LAX, we take great pride in providing resources and job opportunities to our airport community,” said Trevor Daley, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Deputy Executive Director of External Relations. “It was inspiring to see our staff and so many employers working hard to create new opportunities for those in and around LAX.”

Although aviation-related careers were the main focus of the job and resource fair, other airport-related businesses participated including construction companies presenting apprenticeship program opportunities, and police and fire departments.  Community resource organizations offered employment-related services to job seekers such as resume writing and critiquing, job training and apprenticeships, and exploring education options.  In addition to publicizing open positions, employers were also informed about the benefits of hiring workers with vision disabilities in a presentation by Junior Blind of America.

“Employing someone with a vision disability is not that difficult,” said Bonnie Hongo, Job Developer at Junior Blind of America.  “Education is the best tool when it comes to understanding people with vision disabilities. Hiring them is a win-win situation because employers learn the avenues that will assist this population to be gainfully employed, and at the same time, the employer gets solid and motivated employees.”

The event was organized by Jobs@LAX, a program managed by LAWA’s First Source Hiring Program (FSHP) at LAX.  The goal of the FSHP is to provide job seekers with job opportunities at LAX.  For more information, please visit http://www.jobsatlax.org.

“There is a strong need for entry-level and professional employees in the aviation industry,” said Jobs@LAX Coordinator Sontue Beacham.  “By bringing together over 50 employers, the LAX Spring Employment & Resource Fair presented a wealth of opportunities for job seekers to start exciting careers.”
