LOS ANGELES—A man was charged today with trying to kill two Los Angeles police officers and a man in the Westlake District last week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Ivan Castillo (dob 6/2/90) was charged in case BA463988 with two counts each of attempted murder of a peace officer and assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm and one count each of attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The felony complaint also includes special allegations that the defendant personally used and intentionally discharged a handgun.
Castillo is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
Deputy District Attorney Mary Murray of the Crimes Against Peace Officers Section is prosecuting the case.
On Dec. 29, Castillo is accused of opening fire on two LAPD officers on Hartford Avenue near downtown Los Angeles. A female officer was shot in leg. The other officer, along with another man who was nearby, were not injured.
Castillo fled after the shooting but was arrested a short time later.
Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $4.03 million. If convicted as charged, Castillo faces up to life in state prison.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.
