The show named “the Light of Regeneration” is meant to commemorate through Chinese performing arts the achievement of the late Chinese scientist Rongxiang Xu, who dedicated his whole life to serving others and advancing regenerative life science.

The performance, which was presented by the National Rongxiang Xu Foundation in partnership with Cal State LA, featured a host of Chinese stars including famed singer Dong Wenhua, Peking Opera artist Zhao Baoxiu, comedian Cheng Ye, Erhu instrumentalist Chen Jun, and opera singer Wang Chuanyue.

“Every year over 2000 students graduate from Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services,” said Dr. Li Li, the president of Rongxiang Foundation.  “It is significant to bring Chinese culture to the campus named after a Chinese doctor.”

In April 2017, Cal State LA officially named its College of Health and Human Services the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services in recognition of the achievement of Dr. Rongxiang Xu in the field of regenerative medicine, who passed away in 2015.  This marks the first named college in the university’s history of over 70 years.

The newly built bioscience innovation center at Cal State LA will also be named after Dr. Xu to continue his legacy.

The arts show drew the attendance of nearly 2000 local officials, community leaders and university personnel, including Deputy Consul General of Chinese Consulate Shi Yuanqiang, Culture Consul Gu Jin and Wang Jin.
