APILC Congratulates Tony Hoang in Becoming First AAPI Executive Director of Equality California

SACRAMENTO, CA — The Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus (APILC) congratulates Tony Hoang in becoming the first Asian American to hold the position of Executive Director of Equality California, the largest LGBTQ advocacy organization in the state.

Diversity in leadership positions is critical to creating a California that is truly representative for all state residents. Tony Hoang has spent much of his career serving the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and LGBTQ+ communities. Along with helping to pass groundbreaking civil rights legislation, he has fostered many successful campaigns for LGBTQ+ officials and pro-equality candidates.

In recognition of his effective advocacy, the APILC extends its gratitude to the new Executive Director of Equality California, and we look forward to partnering on more legislative efforts in the future.

“The LGBTQ+ community is inclusive of all races and ethnicities, and we are proud to congratulate Tony Hoang on becoming the first AAPI Executive Director of Equality California, one of California’s leading LGBTQ+ civil rights organizations,” said Dr. Richard Pan, Senator and Chair of the API Legislative Caucus. “LGBTQ+ people of color often face additional challenges when openly expressing their identities, and Tony will be a champion for uplifting these voices and removing disparities faced by LGBTQ+ people of color.”

“As the Chair of the Legislative LGBTQ Caucus and Vice Chair of the API Caucus, I feel an immense amount of pride seeing someone as talented and hard-working as Tony Hoang rise up to become the first AAPI person to lead Equality California,” said Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley), Vice Chair of the API Legislative Caucus. “This is just one of many historic accomplishments in his career, and I look forward to our continued partnership as we build a more diverse, loving, and inclusive society here in California.”
