Celebrate the Opening of Taylor Yard Bridge

LOS ANGELES RIVER — Los Angeles City Council President Pro Tempore Mitch O’Farrell today joined Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Gil Cedillo, Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo, Supervisor Hilda Solis, City Engineer Gary Lee Moore, local community leaders, governmental agencies and partners, and students from Dorris Place Elementary School to celebrate the opening of the new Taylor Yard Bridge linking the neighborhoods of Elysian Valley and Cypress Park.

The $27.2 million bridge has been long awaited by the local community and provides a critical connection for pedestrians and bicyclists on both sides of the Los Angeles River. It is the third new bridge constructed over the River during O’Farrell’s tenure leading the 13th District, following the openings of the North Atwater Multimodal Bridge and the Red Car Pedestrian Bridge.

“This new bridge is the result of perseverance and persistence from everyone involved over a 30-year period,” said Councilmember O’Farrell. “This decades-long journey began with former Councilmembers Mike Hernandez and Ed Reyes, their staff members and countless neighbors in Elysian Valley and Cypress Park on either side of the Los Angeles River. Over the past eight years, it has been my honor to take the baton in bringing this collective effort to completion. I commend all the devoted public servants who did the work and local residents for holding government agencies accountable. I’m also grateful to my own staff and all the various partners who have helped bring the amazing Taylor Yard Bridge across the finish line.”

Los Angeles City Council President Pro Tempore Mitch O’Farrell represents the 13th District, which includes the neighborhoods of Atwater Village, East Hollywood, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Glassell Park, Historic Filipinotown, Hollywood, Larchmont Village, Little Armenia, Melrose Hill, Rampart Village, Ridgewood-Wilton, Silver Lake, Spaulding Square, St. Andrews Square, Sunset Square, Thai Town, Verdugo Village, Virgil Village, Western-Wilton, Westlake, Wilshire Center, and Windsor Square.
