3,000 pounds of nutritious food and groceries distributed to 120 Angelenos at weekly event
ECHO PARK – Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell and the Salvadoran American Leadership and Educational Fund (SALEF) today held their weekly food distribution program for food-insecure families in Council District 13 (CD13), distributing approximately 3,000 pounds of food and groceries to 120 low-income Angelenos in need.
Following a successful partnership in 2021 that provided more than 50,000 pounds of groceries to hundreds of Angelenos, O’Farrell and SALEF this month launched a Summer 2022 food distribution program that will be held at various locations throughout CD13. Following distributions in East Hollywood and Westlake, this morning’s event was held in Echo Park.
“This program continues to play an important role in addressing food insecurity and uplifting families in the 13th District,” said Councilmember O’Farrell. “Growing up, I faced food insecurity myself, and no one should ever have to choose between putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their head. Through our partnership with SALEF, we are providing a critical resource to families in the 13th District.”
“Today we held another successful food distribution in our partnership with Councilmember O’Farrell to tackle food insecurity, and we helped 120 of our most vulnerable community members,” said Jocelyn Duarte, Executive Director of SALEF. “SALEF is always ready to help connect local residents with vital resources to address disparities.”
The program, funded by Councilmember O’Farrell and administered by SALEF, will run for six additional weeks in various CD13 communities. Participation from local residents is encouraged.
