Los Angeles Welcomes China’s New Consul General Guo Shaochun

Los Angeles—The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles hosted a grand reception today to introduce the new Consul General Guo Shao Chun.

Mike Fong, California State Assemblyman, Laticia Perez, Supervisor of Kern County, Denise Shen, Regional Director of OFM’s Los Angeles Regional Office, Evan Reade, International Affairs Advisor at California Lieutenant Governor’s Office, Lourdes Saab, Chief of Protocol of Los Angeles County, Christine Peterson, Director of International Trade & Investment at Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, R. Rex Parris, Mayor of Lancaster, and Robert Hertzberg, former Majority Leader of the California State Senate all extended welcome to Consul General Guo.

“Over the past two months since I assumed office, I have been impressed with the warmth and hospitality of the local people, the diversity and vitality of Los Angeles, the good momentum and great potential of sub-national exchange and cooperation, as well as the earnest expectations of Chinese and American people for China-US relationship to maintain stable,” said Guo.

Guo, 55, who used to serve as China’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, came to Los Angeles at “a critical moment” of the strained relationship between the United States and China.  “I am deeply aware of the mission and responsibility I am to take,” Guo said.  “China-US relationship is now facing serious difficulties and challenges.  However, it is undeniable that the two countries share broad common interests, and it is in the fundamental interest of the two peoples to bring the relationship back to the right track of sound and steady development.”

Citing his recent trip to the BYD factory in Lancaster, San Diego Zoo, the Port of Long Beach, and his interactions with the local Chinese communities and the students from China, Guo highlighted the importance of the sub-national cooperation between the two countries.

Business and community leaders in Southern California also attended the reception held at Hilton Universal City Hotel near Los Angeles.
