New Chinese Ambassador to the United States Arrives to Assume Office

Washington, DC–Xie Feng, the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the United States, arrived today to assume office.

Xie told the Chinese and foreign media and greeters from various sectors present at the JFK airport that the China-U.S. relationship is currently faced with serious difficulties and challenges, and his appointment means to him not only honor but also enormous responsibilities.

“My colleagues and I will carry out our responsibilities and live up to our mission with diligence and fortitude,” said Xie.

Xie, a veteran diplomat, used to serve as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, China’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Once a minister in Chinese Embassy in the United State 13 years ago, Xie is not a new face in Washington, DC, who is quite experienced in managing the relationship between China and the U.S., a consequential one for both countries and even the world as a whole.

Over the past 13 years, the world has gone through great changes, and so has the United States, the new ambassador said.  “During my posting, I look forward to engaging extensively with the American people from all walks of life, observing and learning about the country at a close distance, and exploring ways to deepen exchanges and cooperation. I also look forward to making friends with the media and people from other sectors. Let us work together to contribute to China-U.S. relations with insights and actions as well as courage and grit.”

Xie, born in April 1964, graduated with a Master’s degree in Public Administration, is a member of the Communist Party of China, according the biography posted on the website of the Chinese Embassy.
