California Surpasses New York as the State with Most COVID-19 Cases

Sacramento, CA–California has 413,576 confirmed cases to date, becoming the state with most coronavirus cases in the United States.

California’s positivity rate – a key indicator of community spread – is trending upward in the 14-day average, and hospitalization rates also surge.

The 7-day average number of new cases in California is 9,420 per day. The 7-day average from the week prior was 8,309.

There have been 6,664,998 tests conducted in California. This represents an increase of 127,487 over the prior 24-hour reporting period. As testing capacity continues to increase across the state, an increase in the number of positive cases has been expected.

There have been 7,870 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

As of July 21, local health departments have reported 20,231 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 111 deaths statewide.
